From wasted energy to increased savings: How Neo cut costs with HotBot & SolarBot

Abstract

Neo wanted to take full control of her home’s energy use, ensuring her solar system worked smarter and harder for her. With rising electricity costs and an underutilised solar setup, she needed a way to increase her savings. By installing both SolarBot and HotBot, Neo transformed how her home consumed energy, cutting her reliance on the grid and saving R3703 every month.

The challenge:

Before installing SolarBot and HotBot, Neo wasn’t getting the most out of her solar system. Her home was generating only 10.1kWh of solar energy per day, while household consumption sat at 22.2kWh per day. As a result, she had to rely on the grid for 14.1kWh daily, keeping her solar self-sufficiency at just 41.8%. A lot of her solar power was going to waste, and her electricity bills were higher than they needed to be.

The solution: 

Neo was introduced to Plentify and was eager to see how SolarBot and HotBot could help her get more out of her existing solar system installation.With SolarBot and HotBot in place, Neo’s solar system became smarter and more efficient. The bots helped:

  • Generate more solar energy: Neo’s home started producing much more solar power—going from 10.1kWh per day to 26.9kWh per day—meaning she could rely more on the sun for power.
  • Use more of her solar power: Before, Neo was only using 33% of her solar panels’ power. Now, she’s using 66%, making the most of her solar setup.
  • Rely less on the grid: Even though Neo’s home started using more electricity—going from 22.2kWh to 30.1kWh daily—her need for grid power dropped from 14.1kWh to just 7.3kWh, meaning she now gets 78.6% of her electricity from solar.
  • Lower electricity bills: With less reliance on expensive grid electricity, Neo is now saving R3,703 every month—keeping more money in her pocket.
