Operations Engineer (Cape Town)

Location: Cape Town, office based

Timing: Full-time or internship role, starting as soon as possible. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis. Vacation work positions available for third year and final year engineering students.

About the role

The Operations Engineer will leverage his/her/their skills across many areas, including:

  • Technical assembly: assembling PCBs, enclosures, cables and sensors. Bench testing and troubleshooting hardware.
  • Manufacturing oversight: Supporting our mass production efforts including building test jigs, managing suppliers and the production line, maintaining production manuals and quality assurance
  • R&D: building prototypes and deploying and monitoring field experiments to improve our product
  • Field operations: monitoring our fleet of devices, troubleshooting and resolving issues in the field and supporting customers
  • Deployments: project management of deployments, training and supporting installation teams remotely and on site
  • Internal operations: assisting in creating a seamless and scalable operation

The candidate will have the opportunity to learn from a strong team in a fast-paced environment and will get exposure to a wide range of disciplines. The role is based out of our office in Salt River, Cape Town. Some after hours support will be required on a rotational basis as well as frequent travelling to sites, including occasional out of town travel. Own transport and a valid driver’s licence is required for full time positions.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering in electronics, mechatronics or similar. Third and final year students may apply.
  • Understanding of electronics and hardware debugging skills
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters and other test equipment
  • Good soldering skills, both throughhole and surface mount
  • Very strong attention to detail, good communication and an ability to self manage
  • Thorough and considered approach to problem solving and technical troubleshooting
  • Programming skills are an advantage
