Strategy and Business Development Intern
Location: Remote or Cape Town, South Africa
Timing: 10+ weeks concluding before the end of August 2023
About the role
The pressures of climate change and energy security are causing countries around the world to accelerate their transition to clean energy. Enabling this clean energy transition cost effectively relies partly on making electricity demand flexible. Plentify has developed technology to do just this for residential appliances. Because this technology is filling a very real market need, we are growing quickly in South Africa, are starting to pilot in other markets, and are presented with many exciting global growth opportunities.
As a Strategy and Business Development Associate you will:
- Research and prioritise market opportunities
- Conduct analysis to quantify value, often working closely with Plentify teammates or external partners
- Strategize on the most effective models for unlocking identified channels
- Engage with prospects to move one or more of these opportunities from idea to implementation
In doing so, you will fundamentally influence our growth strategy and contribute meaningfully towards enabling clean, reliable and affordable power for all. Note that if you want to focus on either Strategy or Business Development (rather than both), we can consider splitting this into two separate roles.
This internship can either be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa or remotely in a location of your choice.
Required qualifications
- MBA or similarly relevant masters-level candidate from top-tier school
- 2 years of work experience in either (1) a top tier management consultancy (e.g. McKinsey, Bain, BCG or similar), private equity, investment banking, or similar strategy and analytics-focused roles, or (2) business development.
- Proficient in market research and spreadsheet-based analysis
- Analytical, structured and creative problem solver
- Clear communicator by email, slides and verbally
